General Information

Nowadays, with the rapid development of technology, high-tech start-up has become the trend. In US, especially Silicon Valley,successful stories of start-ups happen every day; In China, the government is putting great efforts in promoting venture capital and hi-tech industry. Meanwhile, more entrepreneurs with ambitions and ideas need channels to approach potential investors and partners, tocatch the market, and to optimize product features, etc.

SVIEF Start-up Contest is a chapter of Silicon Valley Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (SVIEF) annual conference. Its main purpose is to cater to the needs of the rising start-up business, by bridging both US and China with:

  • Efficient platform for communication and networking

  • Beneficial innovative start-up environment and information sharing

  • Diverse cross-strait partnership on technology, talent, capital, and market, etc.

  • Integrate venture capital and high-tech industry


  • Participation Information

    · Project with leading technology or service in market

    Qualified Team:
    Entrepreneurs based in US or China;Chinese entrepreneurs intend to return to China;Products/projects need to expand market in China or US

    Project Fields:

    Internet applications, Software and IT, Bio-medicine, Green energy, New materials, Modern manufacturing industries, Agriculture and services, etc.

    Selection Criteria:
    All submitted projects business plan will be categorized by fields, and reviewed by industry professionals, based on principle of fairness and confidentiality.

    Project will be evaluated on comprehensive standards, including project team, potential market, operation feasibility, innovation, product sustainability, etc.

    Highlights

  • The contest is supported by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. Top projects will be recommended to “Thousand Talents Program” Leading Talent Plans and other fund plans

  • Top 30 innovation projects will be promoted through multi-channels, to get resources from Chinese government, US and China venture investment, world top companies, and private enterprises, etc.

  • Top 30 projects will be provided free roadshow booth tables on SVIEF exhibition

  • All participating projects will be introduced to high-tech parks in Chinese cities under Preferential Policies. Free service will be provided to all participating projects to apply for funding from hi-tech park

  • On the event venue, we expect:
    10+ China High-tech Parks
    20+ US & China Top Invest companies
    20+ US & China Media
    200+ US & China companies
    2000+ Attendees
  • Previous Contest Review

    SVIEF Start-up Contest was founded in 2011, and was successfully held in 2011 and 2012. The first two contests were named as “Win in Suzhou”Start-up Contest, and the third one “SVIEF”.

    Start-up Contest is always a highlight of SVIEF. Among previous participating projects, 30+ projects have successfully got fund from VCs and high-tech parks in China, as well as local government policy supports. Several projects got fund from top 500 companies too.

    Procedure

    How to Apply
    1. Log in "http://www.svief.org/yzsz/register.php" Fill out the application form, attach Business Plan with submission;

    2. Application fee: FREE (Deadline: Sep 30)

    Selection Procedure
    1. Contest judge committee will select 30 projects out of applicants, and provide three training sessions.
    a. Three training sessions will be held separately in late Sept, mid Oct, and Late Oct.
    b. Top 30 projects submit Presentation Power Point

    2. Contest judge committee announce top 10 projects

    3. Nov, 2nd, 2013, Top 10 projects present on Finale.
    a. 4 minutes project presentation, 6 minutes for judge Q&A
    b. Each team has at most 3 members for presentation;
    c. Award ceremony after on-site judge remarks

    4. Top 10 team members (up to 3 for each project) attend US-China Night Banquet

    5. Post-contest events will follow

    • Three 2013 SVIEF General Passes (Value $1,197)

    Top 30 projects:

    • One free start-up booth on 2013 SVIEF exhibition hall (Value $600)
    • Free start-up training by VC mentors from both US and China for investment, product design, market niche, and presentation skills, etc. 

    In addition, Top 10 Projects can get:

    • One VIP pass to 2013 SVIEF, including US-China Night Banquet (Value $2,000)
    • Project presentation on SVIEF Start-up Contest Finale
    • Opportunity to visit cities and high-tech parks in China to seek support and fund from China government
    • Opportunity to enter "Silicon Valley Innovation Workshop" and the following project road show, professional tutoring, government support, investment matchmaking, and investment (Value up to $100,000 per project
