Nicholas Hope Director, Stanford Center for International Development (SCID)
Dr. Hope is the Director of the Stanford Center for International Development (SCID) and its China Program. For over twenty years, Dr. Hope was employed at the World Bank serving in numerous capacities: Director, Office of the Vice President, Europe and Central Asia; Country Director, China & Mongolia; Director, World Bank Resident Staff in Indonesia; and chief of multiple finance, industry and energy divisions. Before joining the World Bank he was lecturer in economics at Monash University. His research interests include policy reform in Asian economies, especially China, India and Indonesia. Dr. Hope received his economics PhD. from Princeton University and earlier degrees from the University of Tasmania and Oxford University, which he attended as a Rhodes Scholar.
Dr. Hope is a member of the Order of Australia; a Senior Advisor to Outrider Management LLC; a director of UTAS Foundation, USA; an external board member of the China Institute of Public Finance, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics; and a member of the academic council of the International Finance Forum, Beijing.
