Steve Westly
Founder, Westly Group

Steve is the Founder of the Westly Group which is one of the nation’s largest clean tech and sustainability venture capital funds. The firm has had four of its portfolio companies go public on Nasdaq including Tesla Motors. Prior to that, Steve served as the Controller and Chief Fiscal Officer of the state of California – the world’s eighth largest economy. As Controller, he chaired the State Lands Commission and served on 63 other boards and commissions, including CalPERS and CalSTRS, which together invest more than $350 billion. During his four-year term, Steve helped lead the effort to commit more than $1 billion to clean technology investments.

In the 2008 and 2012 election cycles, Steve served as a California co-chair of the Obama for America campaign. He served on Secretary of Energy Chu’s National Advisory Board representing the venture capital industry.

Before running for office, Steve helped guide the online auction company eBay through its period of most rapid growth, serving as the SVP of Marketing, Business Development, M&A and International.

Steve has a BA and MBA from Stanford University and served on the faculty at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business for five years. He and his wife Anita have founded the Westly Foundation which serves children at risk in California.
