    James Zhang

    Dr. James Zhang is a co-founder and Partner at Formation 8, a $450 million Silicon Valley based venture capital fund implementing a cross border strategy of technology investment in the US and business development in Asia. Before co-founding Formation 8, James was a Managing Director of Australian Government's Renewable Energy Venture Capital (REVC) Fund, a $200 million fund dedicated to renewable energy. He was also Venture Partner at Softbank China Venture Capital, one of the most successful VCs in China with $2 billion under management. As an Entrepreneur in Residence at Khosla Ventures (with $3 billion under management), James co-founded BioDiscovery, a modern agriculture company. He also led Khosla Ventures’ China initiative. Before becoming a VC, James began his career as the founding scientist at Mendel Biotechnology and led its business development. As a China native, James attended the University of Science and Technology of China. He has a PhD in Genetics from the University of California Davis and has completed his post-doctoral and business training at Stanford University and Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is a recipient of the Outstanding Young Scholar Award by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

    Nick has been partner at JIE Capital and TJVC. Nick was a serial entrepreneur. He has been founders of a few successful startups in the Internet and software space. Recently he has been actively engaged in couple big-data companies. Early in his career, he made significant contributions to Internet standardization bodies which led to formations of some working groups in W3C and IETF. Nick received his degrees from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, West Virginia University and Chinese Academy of Sciences in Computer Science and Business. Nick published two books, one on UNIX kernel and the other philosophy.
