Peter Rawlinson is the Chief Technology Officer of Lucid motors. He leads the outstanding team developing Lucid’s premium electric vehicle, providing clear vision for a highly differentiated, next-generation product. Peter has over 30 years of vehicle engineering experience and is best known for developing the Tesla Model S.
Formerly Vice President of Vehicle Engineering at Tesla and Chief Engineer of the Model S, Peter led the engineering of the Model S from a clean sheet to production readiness while simultaneously building a world-class engineering team. Peter conceived of and implemented an innovative product-development methodology, enabling this to occur in just three years, a finessed evolution of which he is applying to the development of Lucid Air. As a hands-on engineer, he also holds a significant proportion of the Model S vehicle patents and many more at Lucid.
Prior to Tesla, Peter was Head of Vehicle Engineering at Corus Automotive, Chief Engineer at Lotus Cars, and Principal Engineer at Jaguar Cars. In these roles, Peter developed key innovations for Alcoa, Aston Martin, BMW, Daimler, Ford, GM, Audi, Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lockheed Martin, and Prodrive.
Peter holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.
