Kurt Cakmak

2018 SVIEF Moderator

Kurt Cakmak is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (’17) majoring in Statistics and Chinese with a focus in Data Science. A cross-border individual, Kurt has worked over the years and continues to work towards politically, economically, legally and technologically bridging American and Chinese societies and promoting cultural understanding and business opportunities between the two.

Previously, Kurt worked at the United States Embassy in Beijing’s Economics Section on the U.S.-China Joint Economic Fact Sheet as well as 2016 G20 Summit in Hangzhou, China; the United States Information Technology Office (USITO) in Beijing on the implications of China’s Cybersecurity law (implemented in July 2017) for U.S. internet-technology company’s in China; the United States Department of Commerce and E-Commerce Innovation Lab in Beijing/Silicon Valley on consolidating private and government-sector resources, tools and expertise to assist small and medium-sized U.S. business with exporting their brand to overseas markets, especially East and Southeast Asia.

Most recently, Kurt managed partnerships, business development and creator-relations at VeeR VR, a virtual reality startup based in Beijing creating a global content community for creating and sharing immersive experiences. As the Business Development Manager at SVIEF, Kurt will be at the forefront of bridging U.S. - China cooperation across various high-tech sectors, including A.I., Big Data, Autonomous Driving, Blockchain, to name a few. He is currently based in Beijing and will be working with the SVIEF teams in Shenzhen and Silicon Valley.
